Sheffield is a city in northern England. It is also one of four boroughs of South Yorkshire, the tenth most populous county in England with over 1.3 million people. Sheffield is one of the largest cities in the country with over 500,000 residents.

The economy of Sheffield has been traditionally dominated by steel manufacturing. Overall, the modern economy of Sheffield employs over 230,000 workers, mostly in the service sector. Recently the city has seen investments from technology companies of Insight Enterprises, Fluent Inc, and Jennic.

Sheffield has a well developed transportation system to serve its residents. The Sheffield Station provides train and tram services and handles more than 5 million passengers a year. Train operators East Midlands Trains, CrossCountry, First TransPennine Express
and Northern Rail provide service all over the United Kingdom. The Supertram is an electrified tram network that provides service in Sheffield. The Sheffield Interchange
Is the main bus station serving the city. The closest airport is the Robin Hood Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, which handles over 1 million passengers a year including international flights.

Sheffield has a rich sporting heritage, which includes two professional football teams competing in the Football League Championship(second division of English Football.) Sheffield United F.C. play at the 32,500 capacity Bramall Lane, and Sheffield Wednesday F.C. play at the 40,000 capacity Hillsborough Stadium. Additionally, the city is home to some of the world’s oldest football clubs of Sheffield F.C. and Hallam F.C., who are currently not professional.

Some other teams in the city include Sheffield Eagles rugby league, Sheffield Tigers rugby union, Sheffield Sharks basketball, Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club, Sheffield Steelers ice hockey and Sheffield Tigers speedway teams.

The Sheffield Arena is a multi-purpose venue that hosts events ranging from local ice hockey games to concerts and other entertainment shows. The seating capacity ranges from 3,000 to 12,000.

Sheffield has a rich music heritage and has produced some international stars such as rock bands Def Leppard and Arctic Monkeys and dozens of other notable groups and artists. Additionally, the city is home to Sheffield Symphony Orchestra, the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra, the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra.

Sheffield is home to multiple cultural points of interests including the two large theatres in the city centre; Lyceum and Crucible Theatre. Other notable landmarks are Millennium Galleries, Site Gallery, Sheffield Winter Gardens, Peace Gardens, and museums Weston Park Museum, the Kelham Island Museum, the Sheffield Fire and Police Museum, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and Shepherd Wheel. The Valley Centertainment is a significant entertainment centre and features restaurants, bars, cinema and bowling alley.
The main shopping centre in Sheffield is the Meadowhall, which has two floors and over 280 stores.

Sheffield has several higher education institutions. The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University each serve more than 25,000 students. The Sheffield College and Longley Park Sixth Form College are further education colleges. On the primary and secondary level, the city has more than 150 total schools.
